Panshanger Football Club in Welwyn Garden City has secured a £4,360 grant from Biffa Award Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund. The project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award’s Recreation Theme, will replace the floor in the clubhouse and help to provide a more professional facility for local children and the community. Panshanger FC provides football facilities and teams for all ages, with over 300 players. The existing floor was laid in 1984 when the clubhouse was built and has now become a health and safety issue due to general wear and tear. This new funding will help the club to focus less on building maintenance and more on developing children's football skills and providing facilities for the local communities. Nige Pitt, Club Secretary said: “The club has been waiting for many years to provide a clubhouse the local community can be proud of and now, thanks to the grant from Biffa Award, we have it!” Mark G, Under 13 Panthers said: “A really nice place to eat a bacon buttie after a hard game” Gillian French, Biffa Award, said: “This project is an excellent example of how the Landfill Communities Fund can help improve local spaces for the community.” For further information please contact: Nige Pitt, Club Secretary, Panshanger Football Club: 07896 621246 or nigel.pitt@panshangerfc.co.uk Catherine Boggild, Communications Officer, Biffa Award: 01636 670062 or cboggild@rswt.org Biffa Award Since 1997, Biffa Award has awarded grants totalling more than £156 million to thousands of worthwhile community and environmental projects across the UK. EBs use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. LOs are able to claim a credit (currently 5.7%) against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make. Since its inception in 1996, over £1.3billion has been spent on more than 51,000 projects across the UK.
